DeMaurice Smith

DeMaurice Fitzgerald Smith is the Executive Director of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA). He was reappointed to his fourth term as Executive Director by the NFLPA’s Executive Committee in spring 2018.

On August 4, 2011, Smith signed a 10-year Collective Bargaining Agreement with NFL management, leading the Players through the owners’ 132-day lockout. The new CBA codifies new health and safety protocols for Players, achieved longer off-seasons, significantly reduces the amount of contact during practices, provides for unannounced inspections of training camps, creates the first compliance and accountability structure for NFL medical personnel, and provides the Players’ with their highest share of TV contract revenues in history.

Prior to his post at the NFLPA, Smith was an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia and was Counsel to then-Deputy Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. After Government service, Smith served as a Partner in the law firms of Latham & Watkins, LLP and Squire Patton Boggs, LLP, in Washington, D.C. where he represented corporations, boards of directors and senior executives in civil and criminal matters. Mr. Smith is a 1989 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and a 1985 graduate of Cedarville University. He resides in the Washington DC metropolitan area with his wife and two children.

I graduated from the University of Delaware with a BFA degree in 1999 and since then I have worked as both an art director and a copywriter. In 2006 I co-created “The Most Interesting Man in the World” campaign for Dos Equis with Brandon Henderson under Jeff Kling that ran for a decade and helped triple the brand’s business. In 2010 I penned and later creative directed the P&G “Thank You, Mom” Olympics campaign that won an Emmy in 2012 and has been named one of the most successful P&G Olympics marketing efforts of all time. In 2015 – in hopes of connecting a struggling brand back to its roots – I helped bring back “The Colonel” for Kentucky Fried Chicken in surprising and unusual ways that helped spark a strong turnaround for the brand leading to over 13 consecutive quarters of business growth. I have worked on a variety of categories and brands that include Nike, Old Spice, Delta, Bud Light, ESPN, Jordan Brand, Yoplait, Target, Sirius, Sprite, OkCupid and Facebook while finding myself working alongside icons. Since joining W+K I have helped bring in new business to the network including McDonald's, Ford, KFC, P&G, Visa, Facebook, Duracell, Yoplait, Kraft-Heinz, HBO, Lyft, Spotify, vitaminwater, OkCupid and The Atlantic.
